The Mercer County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be careful about a potential scam that could put you in a financial bind.
The Mercer County Sheriff's Office was recently made aware of a scammer claiming to be a deputy sheriff. This person is calling people and telling them that there is a warrant out for their arrest. He then instructs them to go to the sheriff's office and put money inside the kiosk using his name.
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey wants residents to know that the sheriff's office doesn't call people regarding warrants and money requests. He also encourages people to be cautious when answering calls from unknown numbers, as they can be changed to appear as local numbers.
