Ohio Northern University and Delphos Discount Drugs have been holding a program to help both students and the community.
The university has new requirements for their pharmacy students to complete, and to help the students meet those obligations, the school and the Delphos pharmacy decided to partner up and have students come in on Mondays to gain some one-on-one experience. The clinics kicked off with helping people in the community sign up for Medicare part D for the year, an opportunity that works well for everyone involved.
"We sit down with Medicare-eligible patients who are looking to enroll in a new plan, so we can take their medication list and their preferences as far as premiums and deductibles go, and we can generate what the best options are," said Katie Westgerdes, the Pharmacy Manager for ONU. "It’s great patient experience, even though it’s not necessarily counseling on a prescription, their still getting that face time with a patient, and learning how to communicate, which is important."
"We’re just excited to partner with ONU, just getting the students in here, getting their hours and experience that they need, all while providing a service to the residents of our community," said Angela Eickholt, Pharmacy Manager at Delphos Discount Drugs.
The ONU students and Delphos Discount Drugs will also be working together to hold a free wellness screening Saturday, November 10, 2018, at their location at 660 Elida Avenue in Delphos from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will be checking cholesterol and blood pressure and will have osteoporosis screenings.
