A major educational change is about to take place in Lima.
Your News Now has learned that the 'Quest Academy' is closing its doors at the end of the school year in May.
Parents of the 120 students at Quest have received letters announcing the closing. The charter school, which began classes for k through 5 students in late August of 2000, was originally housed in the now demolished Jefferson elementary school.
Quest founder Reverend LaMont Monford then moved the students to new space at his church, Phillipian Missionary Baptist.
Reverend Monford says the reason for the closure is two-fold.
Reverend Monford says two-thirds of their students are coming and going on a yearly basis. Many only staying thru the second or third grade, making it tough to meet state scoring standards.
Monford says they are meeting with parents to give them their options on getting their children to whatever school they choose this coming fall.
Monford says this is a tough pill to swallow.
Monford indicated the closure may not be permanent, a group will be formed to discuss what it would take to re-open in the future.
He says, through the church they will continue to offer after school and summer activity programs for the children.
