Three vehicles were involved in a crash Sunday evening in Lima.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 6:30 Sunday evening at the intersection of Allentown and Eastown Roads. The driver of a Toyota was heading northbound on Eastown when they rear-ended a Kia facing north.

The Toyota pushed the Kia forward before continuing on and hitting a van heading southbound.

Alcohol and distracted driving are suspected factors in the crash. The accident is still under investigation.

American Township - The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three vehicle crash which occurred on Eastown Road at the intersection of Allentown Road. The crash occurred on May 19th, 2019, at approximately 6:30 P.M.

A 2010 Toyota Camry, operated by Albert Shifflett, age 60, of Gonzales, Louisiana was traveling northbound on Eastown Road. A 2016 Kia Rio, operated by Loni Reed, age 34, of Lima, Ohio was northbound on Eastown Road and stopped in traffic at the traffic light. Mr Shifflett's vehicle struck the stopped Kia Rio in the center rear. The Toyota Camry continued northbound and traveled left of the center line. Mr Shifflett's vehicle struck a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country, operated by Josef Froehlich, age 35, of Lima, Ohio. Mr. Froehlich was southbound on Eastown Road and stopped in traffic at the traffic light.

American Township Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported Mr. Shifflett and Ms. Reed to Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Ms. Reed was transferred to OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio for further medical treatment. Mr. Froehlich and three passengers were not injured.

On May 20th, 2019, an arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Shifflett for one count of aggravated vehicular assault. Mr. Shifflett was arrested on that warrant and subsequently incarcerated at the Allen County Jail pending his arraignment.

Alcohol and distracted driving are suspected to be factors in the crash.
