Two people are dead following an early morning house fire in the Putnam County Village of West Leipsic.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office says a 9-1-1 call reported a house trailer on fire at 51 S. Third Street, lot number 3 in West Leipsic. On arrival, firefighters were unsure if the trailer was occupied and began a search of the interior before conditions deteriorated and forced a defensive attack on the fire. Once the fire was out, fire crews conducted a more thorough search, discovering a male and female that were deceased. Their names have not been released at this time.
The home was a total loss with damage estimated at $60,000. The cause remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.

At 8:13 am today's date, Putnam County 9-1-1 received a call reporting a house fire at 51 S. Third St. Lot 3, West Leipsic. It was unknown at the time if the home was occupied. Upon arrival of Leipsic Fire Department, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire showing from the west end of the trailer. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior search before being met by deteriorating conditions and switching to a defensive fire attack. The home was extinguished with assistance from Miller City and Ottawa Fire Departments.
After the fire was out and crews were able to search the structure more thoroughly two occupants, one male and one female, were found deceased. Their names are not being released at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshall's Office, but does not appear to be suspicious in nature. The home is a total loss with approximate value of the home and contents estimated at $60,000. Also assisting at the scene were the Leipsic Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Leipsic EMS, Putnam County EMS, and AEP.
