Van Wert Schools hoping voters approve a bond issue to preserve Eggerss Stadium

On May 3rd, voters in the Van Wert School District will be deciding on funding to help rehab their historic football stadium. The school district and the Eggerss Stadium Renovation Committee invited people out Sunday to a "Preserve the Pride" event which included tours and information about the bond issues which would renovate the nearly 90-year-old stadium. If the 1.15 mill bond issue is approved, $5 million will be raised to preserve the historic structure, plus make some improvements to the stands and the field.

“The stadium was built in 1936, it was a wartime initiative. It put people to work. It’s all cement, it is in great shape, but it is dated,” says Eric McCracken on the Eggerss Stadium Renovation Committee. “People are wanting better handicap accessibility, better handicap seating, better parking, better seating, better concession stands, better restrooms, and that is something that we are looking at, as well as, terf. We just want to update this place, to make it ready for the next 80 or 100 years.”
