The City of Lima and the Lima Police Department hosted their annual National Night Out inside the Town Square in Downtown Lima Tuesday Evening from 4 to 7 PM.
Lima Police Lieutenant Aaron Rode explains, « We have to be known as more than a uniform and I know it’s hard because a lot of the times our interactions with pubic service are negative. But we’re people too, we families outside of this job, hobbies, we like all the same stuff that everyone else does. Doing an event like National Night Out gives an opportunity to say, how’s your family, where do you go to school, what are the types of things you’re interested in? It gives us the time to have a discussion and an opportunity to get to know each other.”

When the fire department arrived, they saw the fire had consumed the porch and was starting to spread to other parts of the house. Shawnee Township firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that severely damaged a rural home. Firefighters were called out to 5775 Spencerville rd. just before 6 o'clock Sunday night. There were people home when the fire started and were able to get out of the home. Shawnee township requested mutual aid from American Township, Lima, and Spencerville Fire departments. The home sustained substantial fire damage to the east side the area where the garage is located. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the estimated cost of the damage is $50,000.

The McGuffey Fire Department was called to a residence in the 100 block of Hunsicker Street. Other Hardin County fire departments were called in for mutual aid. Investigators say the fire started on the first floor and the house is considered a total loss.
