A Lima man has been charged with murder for the shooting death of 53-year-old Sam McLaurin on Tuesday. 32-year-old Paul Curtis Jr., made his initial appearance in Lima Municipal Court Friday afternoon. The judge set bond at $750,000, because of his extensive criminal record.

Susan Barnett pleaded guilty to Theft in Office and Communications Fraud back in 2019. Records state that in her role as clerk of courts as far back as 1997, Barnett was stealing money that was due to defendants in garnishments and/or bankruptcy cases, depositing it into her own accounts, and then falsifying records. Restitution hearings have begun in Lima Municipal Court in order to return the stolen money to the victims in the case.

Charges have now been filed against Morris. He now faces one count of murder, a felony of the first degree. Morris was arraigned in Lima Municipal Court on Thursday, where a bond was set at $500,000 cash surety. On September 5th, officers were called out to the 100 block of South Perry Street for reports of shots fired, plus they were also called to the intersection of Perry and North Streets for a rollover crash about the same time.

On July 9th at 11:30 PM in the 300 block of N. West Street, the Lima Police Department says they were called out to the area for a report of a male stabbed inside his car. When they arrived, they found the victim, a 31-year-old man from Lima had been stabbed three times in the abdominal area and in his hand. The suspect, 28-year-old Jamar Burns originally from Michigan, is also claiming to be a victim and had sustained a slash wound to his hand. The fight was in result of an ongoing dispute between the victim and 37-year-old Antonio McNeal of Lima, who is friends with Burns.

Susan Barnett previously pleaded guilty to Theft in Office and Communication Fraud back in October of 2019 for stealing thousands of dollars from the city. Barnett received a three-year sentence in prison, but only served six months after concerns were raised on her age and the risk of her being affected by COVID-19 in prison. She was 76-years-old when she received her sentencing.

18-year-old Jourdyn Rawlins, a recent Lima Senior High School graduate, was arrested by Lima Police back in May on a rape charge. Thursday marked his first appearance in court, as a preliminary hearing was held in Lima Municipal Court. The hearing will be continued Friday morning as the state was not able to secure the appearance of an individual to testify.

Stayce Riley was taken into custody after Lima Police found her daughter, Ma'Laya Dewitt, unresponsive on April 13th. Dewitt was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital. Riley submitted a waiver for a hearing in Lima Municipal Court. Her case is now bound to the Allen County Grand Jury. The judge presiding over the preliminary hearing ordered that her bond of $200,000 cash surety remain.
