The cell phone is now the way that most of us communicate with family, friends, and work. It's an ever-changing technology that can be difficult to keep up with. The Ohio State University Lima and the Lima Family YMCA have teamed up to offer a variety of classes to help people figure out their phones. The one-hour class will cover basic functions, social media, using the installed camera, and other useful applications.
The YMCA held the first class for the FIRST LEGO League, which is a class that meets on Tuesdays in the evening for students ages 9 to 13. The goal of the program is to use LEGO elements and robotics units to create LEGO robots that are pre-programmed to complete specific tasks in a league challenge. The class is also a way to introduce teamwork, and to have kids work together to complete a common goal.
The All-Star YMCA Zone Meet will bring people together from Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. The event takes place at Bowling Green State University beginning on Friday and will conclude on Sunday. Out of 800 swimmers that will be at the meet, the Barracudas are sending 28 competitors, some of which are competing in multiple events. They spoke to us about what it would mean to win an event this weekend.
We may have had our coldest day of this fall so far, so what a better way to warm up, then go for a run.
The Lima YMCA's Costume Glow Run is the fourth and final run in the 2019 Kewpee Race Series. Participants got the chance to dress up and run or walk a 5K course. The path was lit by glow sticks along the way. This was not a competition run, but just a good way for people to stay active and people didn't seem to mind the cold.
Reaching the age of 100 is certainly a very special occasion, and two parties were held to celebrate two women who are the age of 100 or older.
Kids in the community got the opportunity to get out and have some fun at the Lima YMCA, Saturday.
On Saturday they hosted their annual Health Kids Day event. Throughout the morning kids played with dogs, participated in an obstacle course, jumped around in a bouncy house and much more.
