The Auglaize County Neil Armstrong Airport is moving forward with plans to improve the facility.
In recent meetings, the Auglaize County Airport Authority approved the Airfield Drainage and Rehabilitation Project. Shinn Brothers won the bidding process with a $750,000 bid with funding up to $950,000. That project has a projected start date of March. The airport's second project is to renovate the terminal. The Airport Authority approved a plan for a 4,390 square foot, $1.6 million terminal building. The layout will be sent for approval to the FAA and bidding on the building will begin in April.
"Moving in to the next 50 years, the current facility has seen the end of its lifespan," said Ted Bergstrom, airport manager. "It's not a very efficient building. We would like to see it more capable handling additional passengers and other potential customers. It also acts as a gateway for Auglaize County and other larger businesses anybody that flies in here, this is what we present."
Completion of the terminal project is expected by May 2019. That would be just in time for the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's famous walk on the moon.
