Wapakoneta could be making room for a new manufacturer, and over 100 new jobs that would come with it.

Wapakoneta City Council passed resolutions to help packaging company Pratt Industries build a new plant at the shovel ready site on the south side of the city. The State of Ohio needs to approve the deal in the beginning of December for the project to move forward. If approved, Pratt will invest around 250 million dollars for their first phase of their project, which would create around 100 jobs with an average pay of over 25 dollars an hour, with the potential of more jobs and investments in future phases. Pratt is looking at building their fifth recycle paper mill and box manufacturing plant in the U.S. in Wapakoneta.

“One of the best things about them is what they do and what they do best is recycle. The paper mils that they build are not the old, start with the tree and cut it down, like you see around the country,” says Wapakoneta Mayor Tom Stinebaugh. “They use 100% recycle paper, recycle cardboard, which is helping the environment and still coming out with a brand new product.”

Wapakoneta is working on buying the land and annexing it into the city before they finalize the deal with Pratt. Also discussed at council, Wapakoneta is joining other municipalities around the state in the lawsuit against creating the centralized tax collection system that the Ohio lawmakers set up which is suppose to take effect the beginning of next year.
