Shawnee High School teacher arrested and charged with sexual battery of a teenage girl

A Shawnee school teacher has been charged with sexual battery, after he was arrested with a 14-year-old girl.

According to the Shawnee Township Police Department, they got a tip that 27-year-old Kyle Baker was involved in an alleged relationship with a 14-year-old Shawnee High School student. Thursday, a detective went to Baker's residence and saw him leave and followed him. Baker picked up the student and was later pulled over in the 2200 Block of State Route 501. He and the student were taken to the police department where he was interviewed and arrested. Baker has been charged with sexual battery, along with speeding and driving under suspension.

Baker is a health and physical education teacher at the high school. Shawnee Superintendent Jim Kanable sent out a media release saying that Baker has been put on paid administrative leave and the school district is in full cooperation with the local authorities in this matter and will continue to work with them.

And he adds,  "I want to assure the Shawnee community and our parents, that students safety remains a top priority."

The school district could bring further actions against Baker after the police investigation is complete.
