LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima City Council and city administration are in the midst of budget hearings, going through the proposed budget line by line to match financial resources with essential services for residents.

One area seeing an increase is healthcare. The city is increasing funding in that area for the first time in several years to meet the growing need, along with making some other budget adjustments.

Lima Finance Director Meredith Foster says the city has also incorporated principles of priority-based budgeting this year, focusing on projects residents have identified as important.

“We also incorporated principles of priority-based budgeting this year, where we’re looking at the projects that the citizens, what they prioritize, and then making sure that we have those items in our budget as well,” said Foster.

The city’s general fund is approximately $50 million.
