WASHINGTON, D.C. (WLIO) - Tuesday’s blue wave in the midterm election not only means a power shift in both chambers of Congress, it will also change leadership in the House and Senate.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has reportedly decided not to run for House Minority Leader in the new democratic controlled House, and Ohio 4th district Congressman Jim Jordan is throwing his hat in the ring. The Associated Press reports Jordan has sent a letter to his colleagues saying he is ‘battle tested’ and wants the House Minority Leader position. The AP says he will square off against Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise.

Jordan and Scalise both tried to become Speaker in 2023 but split votes giving Johnson the Speaker’s gavel. Jordan has led the powerful House Judiciary Committee since 2023.

House Republicans are expected to choose their House Leader next week.
