COLDWATER, OH (WLIO) — After suffering an early-season loss in Week 2, Coldwater responded with a strong showing Friday night, defeating Fort Recovery 28-14 in the MAC opener for both teams. It was the Cavaliers' first conference matchup of the season and a critical opportunity to reset following their rare early stumble. Coldwater hadn’t dropped a game this early in the year since 2017. Fort Recovery (2-1) struck first in the opening quarter behind a strong drive led by quarterback Alex Gaerke, who picked up a first down on a keeper to set up the score. Running back Breaker Jutte capped off the possession with a touchdown run, giving the Indians a 7-0 lead. Coldwater (2-1) answered in the second quarter. Quarterback Karsyn Homan connected with junior Braxton Taylor on a short pass that moved the Cavaliers into the red zone. Moments later, Homan found senior wideout Caleb Schroer wide open in the end zone to tie the game at 7-7. Just before halftime, Taylor broke through for a rushing touchdown, giving Coldwater a 14-7 advantage at the break. The Cavaliers added two more scores in the second half while holding Fort Recovery to a single touchdown, sealing the 28-14 victory. Homan led the offense with poise, while Taylor’s versatility proved key in both the rushing and passing game. Coldwater will look to build on the momentum as MAC play continues next week.
