Hi there! My name is Kaylee Bowers. I am the First Edition and Noon Edition Weather Specialist. I grew up not too far from Lima. I was born and raised in Marion, OH. The Popcorn Capital of the World! I graduated from Marion Harding High School. In fact, I used to come to Lima a couple times a year for music and sporting events. Ever since I was a freshman in high school, I knew I wanted to work in television. Growing up, I wanted to pursue veterinary medicine. It wasn't until I visited the Today Show in high school, where I found my love for television.
I graduated Cum Laude from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, in Athens, OH, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Journalism and a minor in Meteorology. Currently, I am working on getting my meteorology degree from Mississippi State University. During school, when I wasn't busy with projects in my sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, I was studying or interning. I interned with iHeartMedia in Marion, OH, WSYX ABC 6 & WTTE FOX 28 in Columbus, OH, WBNS 10TV in Columbus, OH, The Today Show in New York City, NY, and WKMG News 6 in Orlando, FL. While I was at the Today Show, I got to work closely with Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and the weather team. I was NBC's first unofficial weather intern. During my time in Orlando, I got to cover the Pulse Nightclub shooting and Tropical Storm Colin. While at ABC 6, I worked closely with meteorologists and reporters, who allowed me to help them with their stories and do some of their forecasts. They also taught me that news never stops... meaning I had to come in for 2 a.m. shifts on Sundays. During my five years at iHeartMedia, I forecasted the weather for three radio stations and was the co-host of Tradio. If you've never heard of Tradio, it's a show where people call in to buy and sell things, as well as many other random things. It's a very interesting show!
During my internships, I was told to be prepared to move far away from home and that's what I was expecting to do. I was so excited when I found out I was offered the opportunity to stay in Ohio and close to home. WLIO is my first job after graduation. I am very excited to make Lima my new home and report and forecast for Northwest Ohio!
When I'm not reporting or forecasting, I like to spend my time watching movies, playing with my dog, and hanging out with friends. I also like to craft and cook, but I'm not very good at either. I love to workout but was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 16, so I have to find different ways to workout. I am looking to be more active in the community, so if you have any ideas on what, please let me know! If you see me out, stop me and say hi! I love meeting new people and making connections!
