Leipsic, Ohio (WLIO) — Leipsic picked up its first Blanchard Valley Conference win of the season on Friday night, pulling away from Vanlue for a 67–41 victory in Putnam County.
Both teams entered the matchup winless in conference play, but Leipsic continued its dominance in the series, extending its winning streak over Vanlue to 15 games dating back to 2011.
The Vikings took control in the second quarter behind junior Calvin Miller.
Miller scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the first half, including a short jumper and a putback in the closing moments that helped Leipsic build a 32–17 halftime lead.
Vanlue was led by senior Owen Roszman, who finished with a team-high 17 points after converting a putback early in the second quarter. However, the Wildcats struggled to keep pace offensively.
Leipsic maintained its momentum after halftime as Vanlue attempted to mount a comeback.
Brady Hamilton scored off a cut to the basket in the third quarter, but the deficit proved too large.
Sophomore Daniel Garica added to the Vikings’ lead by poking the ball free and converting on the other end, sealing the outcome as Leipsic pulled away late.
Leipsic secured the 26-point win to open conference play with a victory, while Vanlue remained in search of its first league win.
