2009 murder details revealed during hearings

New details of a 2009 murder investigation are revealed during suppression hearings for Markelus Carter.

Carter is charged with aggravated murder with prior calculation in the shooting death of 53 year old Kenneth Warrington.  Warrington was shot four times in the torso as he was leaving a home on East McKibben Street in Lima in 2009.

Two suppression hearings were held back to back in Allen County Common Pleas Court Thursday morning.  Judge David Cheney presided over the first hearing because it revolved around a search warrant authorized by Judge Jeffrey Reed.  The second hearing, held in Judge Reed's court, focused on interviews conducted with Carter on February 23, 2009-- the day Warrington died.

During the hearings, prosecutors revealed that a gun and bullets matching the type of casings at the scene were found during a search of Carter's vehicle.   Prosecutors also revealed that Warrington was dating Carter's ex-girlfriend and allegedly impersonated an investigator to get more information about their relationship.

Defense counsel wants both the search of the vehicle and the interview tossed.  The judges will rule on the matters at a later time.
