Committee members for the planned 9/11 Memorial in Allen County received a donation from the Pentagon earlier this week.
Committee members Jeff Rosebrock and Ken Ford made the trip to Washington, D.C. to pick up the donation, which was a limestone piece from the rubble of the Pentagon attack on September 11th, 2001.
The donation will be part of the memorial that is planned to be next to the Shawnee Fire Department, a memorial that not only is for those who remember what happened that day, but for future generations as well.
"We also need to use it as an educational piece, we need to teach our children about that day so we never forget and we remember the impact that it had," said Rosebrock, president of the committee. "My children weren't alive for that, so it's important to me that they can see it and put things into perspective for them for that day."
A comedy show will also be held to help raise money for the memorial.
The Laughter Saves Lives Foundation is bringing a show to the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center on Saturday, March 30th at 7:30 p.m. proceeds will go towards the memorial and you can purchase tickets at www.limaciviccenter.com.
