It's one thing to raise your own children but to raise someone else's child takes a special person.

Allen County commissioners recognizing those individuals involved in the Kinship Program. It's through Allen County Children Services. There are 139 children with 82 kinship providers in the county. September is Kinship Care Month highlighting the commitment these selfless people put forth to care for these children and for many it's a life-changing experience.

"I wasn't expecting it but it is an amazing blessing. It really is and I'm having fun. My children are older so I'm kind of starting over but it's fun," said Alyson Cotten, Kinship provider.

"It's starting over but it's so much fun and he's our family so he's just like one of our own and I love watching him grow up, it's great," commented Jamie Wise, Kinship provider.

If you're interested in becoming a kinship provider there will be informational meetings Friday(9/6/19) and Saturday(9/7/19) at the Lima Public Library.
