LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County Museum is stepping back into the 1940s with exhibits, events and dance lessons that highlight America during and after World War II.
As part of its programming, the museum is hosting a 1940s-themed gala this week and recently offered dance lessons to help attendees prepare for the event. Participants learned classic dances, including the foxtrot and jitterbug, giving them a chance to experience the music and style of the era.
Ballroom dancing is one of the activities that dancers say helps bring people together while allowing couples to connect on the dance floor.
“All ballroom dancing brings couples together, brings people together. Um and especially these dances, they're so fun and energetic. Um the swing itself has lasted for what feels like eons. Um that from young couples to older couples, everyone can just enjoy turning themselves out on the dance floor, kicking up the carpet and and having a good time. And foxtrot is one of those that you just feel so elegant and relaxed as you smooth smoothly glide around the floor,” says Tim Frost, Dance Instructor.
Dancing is just one of the highlights planned for Thursday night's Discover of Decades Gala. The sold-out fundraiser will support the Allen County Museum's exhibits, educational programming and free-admission initiatives.
