ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County SWAT team arrested a man who refused to leave an American Township home following an alleged domestic violence incident Friday.

Cody Hunter, 30, was booked into the Allen County Jail and is facing charges of domestic violence and having weapons while under disability. The incident occurred at a residence in the 5000 block of Piquad Road around 4 p.m. Friday.

Deputies were called to the scene for a reported domestic violence incident involving a firearm. Two victims were able to flee the home before deputies arrived. Deputies repeatedly ordered Hunter to exit the home, but he refused to comply. Due to the presence of firearms, the Allen County SWAT team executed a search warrant and entered the home around 8 p.m.

Hunter was taken into custody after he was found hiding in the attic with four handguns. Authorities also confirmed Hunter has outstanding warrants in Putnam County. The case remains under investigation.

On January 30, 2026, at approximately 4:17 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 5000 block of Piquad Road in response to a reported domestic violence incident involving a firearm. Two victims were able to flee the residence prior to deputies’ arrival, while the suspect was believed to remain inside the home.

Upon arrival, deputies established a perimeter and made multiple PA announcements requesting the suspect, identified as Cody Hunter, to exit the residence. Mr. Hunter did not follow these commands. 

At approximately 7:57 p.m., the Allen County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the scene with a search warrant. Additional PA announcements were made directing Mr. Hunter to exit the residence.

Based on the nature of the call and information available at the time indicating the suspect having access to firearms, SWAT entered the residence. Mr. Hunter was  located in the attic and taken into custody without further incident.

A subsequent search of the attic revealed that Mr. Hunter had four pistols at the time of his arrest.

Mr. Hunter was transported to the Allen County Jail and booked on charges of domestic violence and weapons under disability. He is also being held on an outstanding warrant from Putnam County.

This investigation remains ongoing.
