LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The bond remains the same for a Chinese national charged with defrauding an Allen County resident.

Xianchun Li, 33, of Flushing, New York, was seeking to have his $1 million bond reduced. He was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of theft from a person in a protected class and one count of attempted theft from a person in a protected class. The judge denied Li’s request, citing that he is a flight risk.

Li was arrested on July 29 in a sting operation conducted by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. Prosecutors believe he is part of a larger organization of scammers.

They say he flew into Columbus the morning of his arrest and was booked to fly out the same day. They also say his flight records show that he has done the same thing in other parts of the country. Li’s trial has been set for February.
