LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - With Labor Day marking the unofficial end of summer, many people will be hitting the roads or taking flights.
According to AAA, the cost of domestic flights, hotels and car rentals is down 6%, 11% and 3%, respectively, this Labor Day weekend compared to last year. Despite recent fluctuations, gas prices are expected to remain lower than the $3.33 national average recorded on Labor Day in 2024. The top destination cities for the holiday include Seattle, Orlando and New York City. AAA also offers travel tips for those heading out this weekend.
“Make sure you have your vehicles checked. If you're going to be doing a road trip, always make sure you got your fluids topped off. With the temperature change that we've seen in the last week, your tire pressure is going to be fluctuating so make sure those things are ready for your vehicles. If you're going to be flying, make sure everything is still on time. Always allow extra time if you're going to be traveling,” says Cindy Nelson, Senior Retail Sales Manager, AAA Lima.
Nelson recommends traveling in the early morning, when traffic congestion is typically lighter.
