LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen County 4-H and Junior Fair is helping fight hunger through its annual Stock the Trailer food drive.
The program, sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America, is held by junior fair programs in Ohio and Indiana to support local food banks.
During the fair, different departments are collecting nonperishable food items and money to purchase food for the West Ohio Food Bank.
“We collect different items, different food items throughout the week through all the different barns that are here and our special interest building. At the end of the week, the barn that collects the most food gets a pizza party. This year I think our kids are really excited. They're trying to get in the top three so that they can get some additional prizes to then buy food for next year,” says Kelly Cobie, Allen County 4H Educator.
Last year, Fulton, Mercer and Auglaize counties took the top three spots in the region.
Those who want to help the West Ohio Food Bank can receive $2 off admission at the walk-in gates Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. by donating a can of food.
