DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) - Allen County emergency management officials called to a reported chemical spill in Delphos just after 11 Tuesday morning.

EMA officials tells Your News Now that a semi at the Love's gas station on 5th Street leaked a small amount of butyl acetate, a flammable solvent used in lacquers and paints. The leak was contained and crews stayed on scene until PUCO, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, checked the semi to see if was deemed fit to continue driving. A crew was also called out to clean up the chemical, along with containment measures in place to protect a nearby pond.

"We have containment that's preventing it, but the EPA is on site to ensure everything's safe around there as well," said Jared Gesler, director of Allen County EMA and Department of Homeland Security. "We're just waiting on the company's cleanup contractor in order to clean up anything that's around the vehicle."

EMA officials say the small amount spilled posed no public danger. They contained the area around the fuel island where the truck was located. Out of an abundance of caution due to the chemical's flammability, Delphos Fire evacuated 150 feet around the semi.
