LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Allen County voters will see a different type of check-in at polling locations during Tuesday’s election.

A potential security violation was identified in Perry County involving an electronic pollbook used to sign in voters on Election Day. While that device was never actually used in an election, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose said it violates the state’s election security standards.

As a result, any county using equipment from that same vendor — including Allen County and many others in northwest Ohio — will revert to paper poll books for Tuesday’s election.

Election officials say the process will still be straightforward for voters.

“You'll still present your ID. The poll worker will find your name in the poll book. It'll be a fairly expedient process. They'll go ahead and have you sign the poll book, wish your ballot, and then you go ahead and vote,” said Keith Cheney, chairman of the Allen County Board of Elections.

Polling locations will open at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7:30 p.m.
