LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Bargain hunters and garage sale enthusiasts have an opportunity to find unique treasures while supporting a good cause this week at the Area Agency on Aging 3.
The agency kicked off the first day of its inaugural garage sale on Thursday at its Allentown Road location. The fundraiser features a wide variety of donated items, including artwork, bicycles, household goods, home décor, children's toys and more.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit the agency's Elder Justice Programs, which provide assistance to seniors whose needs may not be covered through traditional funding sources or existing services.
“Sometimes there are individuals that might fall through the cracks or things like that. So this is helps with emergency funds. If they need groceries, even to get documents like their birth certificates, those kind of things. Just those quick placements if they need placements in care facility or something like that, maybe help with rent,” said Jolene Highley, AAA3 director of engagement and public affairs.
Funds raised through the event help address urgent needs for older adults, including food assistance, housing support, document retrieval and emergency care placements. The garage sale will continue Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Organizers remind shoppers that all purchases are cash only.
