LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — As the Juneteenth holiday approaches, ArtSpace/Lima is offering a pair of free events designed to celebrate Black history, culture and artistic expression.

Following the success of its recent evening of poetry, ArtSpace/Lima will host Allen County Poet Laureate Laurin Wolf for a presentation titled “Celebrating the Heartbeat of Black American Poetry.” The program will explore how generations of Black poets have shaped and transformed American literature.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, at the Bradfield Community Center. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

ArtSpace/Lima will continue its Juneteenth activities on Friday, June 20, by participating in community festivities throughout the day before hosting a special exhibition opening later that evening.

“Art Space will have a table out there. We'll have kids and adults arts activities. And then at 6.30, we are opening our Juneteenth show, which is called The Happiest Day of My Life. And that is an artist from Columbia, Missouri. Her name is Lisa Bartlett. And she has collages and paintings that she's done that are large that show some people in the happiest form of their life,” said Sally Windle, executive director of ArtSpace/Lima.

The exhibition, “The Happiest Day of My Life,” features large-scale paintings and collages by Columbia, Missouri, artist Lisa Bartlett. The works depict individuals experiencing some of the most joyful moments of their lives.

The exhibit opening is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. June 20 at ArtSpace/Lima. Like the poetry presentation, the event is free and open to the public.
