ArtSpace/Lima expands with transformation of former Jones Hardware building

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Renovations are continuing at ArtSpace/Lima as work progresses on the  “59 Building,” a historic structure dating back to 1865.

Crews are currently installing new windows in the former Jones Hardware store, which has housed several businesses over the years before eventually becoming vacant. The building was donated to ArtSpace/Lima by an anonymous donor and is being transformed into a multipurpose arts facility.

Once complete, the space will house the organization’s permanent art collection, provide additional classrooms and include an event space designed to generate revenue and expand programming opportunities.

“We’ve got so many things that have gone on in our regular building that now, with the expansion of programming, we will have more opportunities to put a permanent gallery, do a lot of art therapy in the building, and then there’s going to be a revenue stream,” said Executive Director Sally Windle. “We’ll be able to have events and groups on the third floor, which is pretty fabulous.”

Windle said once exterior façade work is finished, renovations will shift to the building’s interior. The organization is also planning several fundraisers to help complete the project.
