Their work is then evaluated by judges, who provide feedback on their writing.

Participants spent the morning engaged in three 40-minute rounds of writing, crafting each piece in response to an open-ended prompt. Their work is then evaluated by judges, who provide feedback on their writing. Power of the Pen aims to empower young writers, helping them find and develop their unique voices.

"It helps me express my creativity in ways that I never thought I could. And it also helps me, just like, spill my imagination. I like the practices and the prompts they give us, they're all so creative, and it helps get my mind flowing for these competitions," said Cheyenne Grounds, a 7th grader competing with Perrysburg Jr. High School.

"They came to us as super strong writers already with a love and a passion of writing, so the ability to creative write and just having the time to do so," said Jamie Avery, coach of Perrysburg Jr. High School.

"The camaraderie amongst the team has been huge, the enthusiasm in the last month, because a month ago today was districts, and then today we've got regional so the last month, they have just been all in for power the pen. So it's been really fun," said Jennifer Scharer, coach of Perrysburg Jr. High School.
