BLUFFTON, OH (WLIO) — People came to downtown Bluffton Saturday morning not only to learn about the village's history, but to taste it, too.
The Bluffton Ohio Historical Society held its fourth annual History Day, giving people of all ages an opportunity to learn more about the village's past. Throughout the day, visitors could participate in a scavenger hunt, explore Bluffton's history and even get locked behind the same cell door that once held gangster John Dillinger. This year's History Day also spotlighted some of the village's former businesses through presentations and samples of their specialties.
“This year we have a blast from the past. We have Hankish ice cream that was in existence many years ago. They're serving today which I had mine and it was really good. We also have the Gillett Bakery across the street. We have Mr. Gillett's son here still making sausage rolls after all these years and he's giving them away today also,” says Ron Epp, president of the Bluffton Ohio Historical Society.
In the next few weeks, the Historical Society expects to take possession of two properties. One will become its new museum, while the other will be converted into a vintage Sohio gas station.
