LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Lima 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn has started collecting sign-ups for his annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway.
Tuesday afternoon, residents came out to Heir Force Community School to add their names to the list for a free turkey. So far, around 75 people have already signed up. Although food prices continue to rise, Glenn says it’s his mission to ensure everyone can enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.
"I just enjoy this, the 16 years we've been doing it. We're going to continue working at it. It gets tough every year. It's a tough year with turkey prices going up a lot, but I still want to take this opportunity to take on these families. I want every family to be able to sit at home to say they sat there to eat Thanksgiving dinner with their family," says Derry Glenn, Lima 6th Ward Councilman.
For those who missed Tuesday’s registration, Glenn will host another sign-up session on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Heir Force Community School, 799 N. Main St. in Lima. Participants must show two forms of identification, including one that lists the number of children in the household.
Wednesday’s sign-ups will also coincide with Glenn’s annual Halloween Bash at Heir Force.
The turkey pick-up day is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon.
