CRIDERSVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Cridersville celebrated its history and America's 250th anniversary with a community picnic.
The Cridersville Historic Society, Lions Club and village hosted a full day of events celebrating the history of both the village and the country. Community members could grab free food, play games, enjoy live music and take horse-drawn carriage rides to commemorate Cridersville's 170th anniversary. Event officials said educating others about the history of the village helps to improve the community.
"The United States goes from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and there are all kinds of towns of all sizes in between. It's important in every community to have some sense of how that community came to be, how it grew, who lived in it, what they did, how their lives are similar to what our lives are today, and how we can remember and honor them for what they did to make our community a better place," said Greg Myers, president of the Cridersville Historical Society.
The picnic was one of more than 200 events held in Ohio to honor local history in collaboration with the Ohio History Connection.
