Democratic Secretary of State candidate Bryan Hambley campaigns in Allen County

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — One of the Democratic candidates for Ohio secretary of state made a campaign stop in Allen County on Saturday.

Bryan Hambley spoke with local Democrats about his platform as he seeks to become the state’s next chief elections officer.

Over the past several months, Hambley said voters have shared concerns about rising medical costs, the loss of public school funding and fairness in Ohio’s elections.  It has been 20 years since a Democrat has held the secretary of state’s office and Hambley outlined what the role could look like if he were elected.

“An advocate for Democrats, independents and Republicans who just want fair elections. And what does that look like, districts that are drawn not by the politicians who sit in those seats, but by an independent redistricting commission. We need honest ballot language, and we need it to be fair and easy for everybody to vote. That's what I think it should look like. I believe Democratic primary voters should nominate somebody outside the normal political process, not just career politicians doing the same thing. We need a candidate who does not take corporate PAC money, and we need a candidate committed to ending gerrymandering, not compromising on gerrymandering,” says Bryan Hambley, Democratic Candidate for the Ohio Secretary of State Seat.

Hambley is facing State Rep. Allison Russo in the Democratic primary on May 5.
