LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church held a special service to pray for the safety of kids as they return to school.
The prayer service was organized by Sixth Ward Councilman Derry Glenn to pray for children's safety and education. Glenn said he organized the service to help draw more kids to religious life. Glenn added that he hopes the service draws more kids to churches, and that he plans on reaching out to schools in the community to encourage children to join a parish.
"My parents raised me in the church and that made me want to be a better person, work very hard and give back," said Glenn.
"That's what we want to do. We want these congregations start coming out, try to save souls and let the kids know what the importance is about God. That's what Lima needs to do, we've got to get out there and walk and talk to these kids."
Glenn encouraged parishes to actively reach out to children as the school year begins.
