LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima City Schools has announced the start of its summer food program for area children.
The district is offering free hot meals four days a week during the summer for children ages 1 to 18. Officials said the program is open to all children in the community, not just Lima City Schools students.
“Being able to have hot meals is especially a blessing for our children,” said Carrie Woodruff, director of food services for Lima City Schools. “They have things in the refrigerator or whatever, but at least they have an opportunity to get a hot meal with fresh fruits and vegetables. They always get a snack also.”
In-house meal service locations include Heritage, Independence, Liberty and Unity elementary schools from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mobile meals through the Spartan Lunch Express will be available at Lincoln Park from 11 to 11:20 a.m. and Faurot Park from noon to 12:30 p.m. All meals must be eaten on site.
