LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Funeral directors from across the region gathered in Lima today as part of a statewide requirement to stay up to date on laws and best practices in the industry.

Around 100 local funeral professionals attended the seminar. Ohio requires funeral directors to complete 18 hours of continuing education every two years. Wednesday's event covered topics such as veterans' benefits, ethics, pre-arranged funeral planning and changing state laws.

"One of the programs this afternoon is on the laws, and the laws constantly change. In the everyday world, laws change at the federal and state level. The State Funeral Director's Association will be here this afternoon and go over all of those details so that we're abreast on what's going on in the state, as well as national level that change how we do our day-to-day business," said John Neeper, funeral director at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services.

The seminar drew attendees from Ohio’s Third District, which stretches from Springfield to Findlay.
