LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Active and retired Lima firefighters are asking the community to help "Fill the Boot" and raise money in the fight against muscular dystrophy.
Firefighters are stationed at the intersection of West Street and Robb Avenue, collecting donations from motorists as part of the annual Fill the Boot campaign. Lima firefighters have participated in the fundraiser for many years, with the community helping raise thousands of dollars annually. Retired Lima firefighter Jeremy Welker said the money collected through the campaign will remain in northwest Ohio.
"We're going to be doing fill the boot for muscular dystrophy and all the money stays here in Northwest Ohio. So it's last year was the most we've ever made which was over $18,000."
Last year's campaign set a fundraising record, bringing in more than $18,000.
Firefighters will continue collecting donations at West Street and Robb Avenue on Friday and Saturday, hoping to surpass last year's total.
