LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Lima Kiwanis Club is continuing its tradition of promoting a healthier—and howling—Halloween.

Now in its seventh year, the Howl’oween Trick or Trot offers participants the chance to run or walk in either a 5K or a one-mile fun run. Pet lovers can also get involved by submitting a photo of their costumed companion in the annual Virtual Pet Contest.

Proceeds from the event help the Lima Kiwanis support local children and organizations that serve animals in the community. Organizers are also encouraging area businesses and groups to become sponsors to help further the mission.

“Because the shirts get more expensive. Everything gets more expensive every year. And with the sponsors, we have, like, if they donate, like, 250 or more, we have them added to the shirt so that they could be represented. This race is one that we put on every year just to help support kids and animals in the community. So by having this race, it's really fun, because it's Halloween, people dress up in costumes, and people can just wear their race shirts. And it's just, it's a fun, festive event, especially after a trick or treating and having all that candy,” said Crystal Miller of the Lima Kiwanis Club.

The Howl’oween Trick or Trot is set for Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. in Faurot Park. Entry is $30 for the 5K and $25 for the one-mile fun run.  For $10  you can register for the Virtual Pet Contest
