LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Fourteen associates of Lima Memorial Health System are being honored as “Champions of Great Care” during National Hospital Week, recognized for going above and beyond in providing exceptional service.
Nominated by their peers and patients, the honorees were selected for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to the mission and spirit of Lima Memorial. The recipients represent a wide range of departments across the facility.
Gwen Prenger, a patient care technician and secretary, said her role is all about offering patients the attention and care they need.

Nominated by their peers and patients, the honorees were selected for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to the mission and spirit of Lima Memorial.
“I’m kind of like a nurse’s aide here at Lima Memorial,” Prenger said. “I help patients with their hygiene or their meals, just kind of give them the extra time that the nurses don’t really have to give because they’re so busy—even if that’s just sitting and having a conversation with my patients.”
Mike Swick, CEO of Lima Memorial Health System, said the recognition reflects the hospital’s close-knit and compassionate culture.
“It’s a matter of culture here at Lima Memorial,” Swick said. “We’re a culture of family, quality care in a family atmosphere. It’s amazing to find the generosity and how people recognize one another. We’re a team, and that’s how we take care of patients. That’s how we take care of individuals.”
National Hospital Week, first observed in 1921, is the nation’s largest annual health care celebration. It highlights the contributions of hospitals, health systems, and health care workers across the country.
