LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Dozens of local seniors will have a brighter holiday this year thanks to the generosity of Lima Memorial Health System associates and volunteers.

For another year, the hospital team is providing gifts to area senior citizens — items the elders specifically requested, many of which are essential household goods rather than traditional presents. Brooms, dustpans, cleaning supplies and other necessities were wrapped and packed into vans for delivery. The Lima Memorial Auxiliary oversees the Angel Tree program at the hospital and says the opportunity to help seniors in need remains deeply meaningful.

“If you read the angel tags, it really just shows you these individuals are looking for basic things, grocery gift cards, gift cards to go out to eat, cleaning supplies, warm blankets, treats for their pets. For us, it's just about bringing some extra cheer to those in the community who may not receive it otherwise,” said Jessia Eutsler, volunteer services and gift shop coordinator.

“We look forward to this every year, and it's such a benefit for our individuals that otherwise wouldn't get something for Christmas and don't have any family or anything for support. So these gifts are more important than ever each year,” added Jolene Highley, director of marketing and communications for Area Agency of Aging 3.

The Area Agency on Aging 3 collected the gifts and prepared them for distribution to seniors across the region.
