LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A major renovation and expansion project at the Lima Public Library is set to begin Monday, June 8, bringing significant improvements to the facility while library officials work to keep services available to patrons throughout construction.
As construction gets underway, the library's main entrance will close, and visitors will need to use a temporary entrance located on the opposite side of the building.
As construction gets underway, the library's main entrance will close, and visitors will need to use a temporary entrance located on the opposite side of the building.
The project includes a 4,000-square-foot addition designed to address several critical needs within the library. Planned upgrades include the installation of an elevator, additional restrooms, more meeting rooms and two updated entrances.
Library officials expect the renovation and expansion project to take approximately one year to complete.
“Seeing things start to progress, it's getting real real. But we're very excited and we're just going to take care of any problems that arise and just make sure that the library stays open as much as possible to patrons during this process. I hope patrons really enjoy seeing the work in progress and knowing that this is all going to be worth it in the end," says Liz Smith, head of Public Relations at the Lima Public Library.
In addition to the upcoming construction project, the library will kick off its Summer Reading Program on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the library garage.
The program will offer prizes for both children and adults who complete the summer reading challenge.
