LIMA, Ohio (WLIO)Mayor Sharetta Smith is inviting residents to participate in this year’s State of the City address by submitting questions and concerns they would like addressed.

Mayor Smith said she is taking a different approach to the annual address after conversations with residents highlighted that people want to understand the reasons behind city decisions rather than just hear what is being done.

Lima residents encouraged to submit questions for April 2nd State of the City address by Mayor Sharetta Smith

“Over the last four plus years, we spent a lot of time talking with residents, and one of the things that has become crystal clear is that people don’t always care so much about what we’re doing. They want to understand why,” Smith said. “So this year, instead of me standing up and talking for 45–50 minutes, we’re going to have a conversation with the community.”

Residents can submit questions through Wednesday via the city’s website by navigating to the News tab and following the prompts. Some questions may be incorporated into the program.

The State of the City will be held April 2 at 6 p.m. in the Joe Henderson Auditorium at Lima Senior High School. The event will also be live-streamed on the City of Lima OH Government Facebook Page.
