LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — As the school year begins to wind down, local community leaders are working to ensure students remain engaged and invested in productive activities throughout the summer months.

Built around the message “Your Voice, Your Future, and Your City,” the Lima Youth Summit was created to give students an opportunity to develop leadership skills, share ideas and connect with their community.

The summit will be held at Lima Senior High School and is open to any students in fifth through 12th grades in the area. Organizers say the event will feature student-led discussions, leadership development sessions and opportunities for young people to make their voices heard while creating a positive impact in the community.

“One of the objectives of the summit is to make sure that as the school year ends, we're empowering kids with information that will help them to stay engaged academically, but also engaged socially, so that way they can make decisions that will prevent them from participating in at-risk activities,” said Londell Smith of the Lima Youth Summit.

Following the summit, organizers will also host a teen job fair and activity event. The goal is to connect local businesses in need of summer help with young adults searching for summer and part-time employment opportunities.

Organizers are currently looking for employers willing to participate in the event by conducting on-site interviews, accepting applications and potentially making hires during the job fair.

Additional information about the summit and job fair can be found on the WLIO website.
