Marines from across Ohio gather in Lima for convention

Mayor Sharetta Smith offered her appreciation to the Marine Corps League for its efforts in continuing to strengthen the fellowship among Marines throughout the state.

This year marked the first time the Department of Ohio's convention has been held in Lima. Mayor Sharetta Smith offered her appreciation to the Marine Corps League for its efforts in continuing to strengthen the fellowship among Marines throughout the state. The convention provided Marines with a chance to reconnect, share stories and experiences, and build unity among generations.

“First of all, it's an honor to get together with my fellow brothers and sisters from the generations across the Marine Corps. But it's also important to get the department, which is the Marine Corps detachments across the state, together to come to a unity in decisions on how to future conduct business as a Marine Corps and Marine Corps League," said Shannon Nichols, Commandant with the PFC Leonard F. Mason Detachment 1063.

"Honestly, it's chaos. You get Marines together, and it's stories and tales, and we did this and we did that, and it's a good time together to share that camaraderie and that brotherhood that only Marines truly share," said Nichols.

The year 2025 is a significant milestone for the U.S. Marine Corps, as it marks the 250th anniversary of the branch's founding.
