LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Ohio State Lima welcomed nearly 250 new Buckeyes to campus for the start of the school year.
The new students kicked off the year Monday morning with the opening convocation. Dean Margaret Young encouraged them to say “Yes” to opportunities, themselves and to the whole Buckeye experience.
The Lima campus is seeing more students this year, with increases among both first-year and returning students.

“I think people are really realizing the importance of higher education and what it can really do to transform not only their lives or their families lives, but those of the community. And that's really what Ohio State is designed to do, to support and lift up the community, to ensure that we're all seeing a better future," said Dr. Margaret Young, dean of Ohio State Lima.
Also beginning work at the campus this year is Jess, an Australian Shepherd Mini who was recently certified as a therapy dog. She will hold office hours for students and staff to help manage stress throughout the school year.
“But every day, different stressors come to life, and they just may need to have a safe place to come and pet a dog and just be thankful that there's somebody that they can just release some tension with,” said Amy Livchak, Jess’s owner and coordinator of student engagement.
Jess and the students begin their work together Tuesday as the fall semester gets underway.
