LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The city of Lima, in conjunction with Activate Allen County, is awarding grant funding through its Neighborhood Impact Grants program to support community-based projects.
This round of funding includes grants to the Allen County Master Gardeners and the YWCA of Northwest Ohio, both aimed at expanding gardening initiatives that focus on education, outreach and community engagement. The projects range from a children’s garden pollinator project to the YWCA’s teen outreach garden. Gwenda Bevis, YWCA youth development coordinator, said the funding will help grow the organization’s garden operation.

“This grant is going to allow us to expand our garden, as far as garden beds, getting the fertilizers, the seeds, everything that it's going to take to raise more produce vegetables in our garden area, which is located across the street from our location, the YWCA 608 West High Street.”
Bevis said the organization hopes to grow enough produce to allow teens to participate in local farmers markets. The YWCA of Northwest Ohio received $3,000 in grant funding for the project. The Allen County Master Gardeners were awarded $2,200 to support their gardening initiative.
