COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — Ohio Attorney General David Yost will resign from office six months before reaching his term limit, according to Gov. Mike DeWine.

DeWine announced that Yost submitted his resignation effective June 7. According to his resignation letter, Yost said he is leaving office for another employment opportunity.

Yost has served as Ohio’s attorney general since 2019. During his time in office, one of his most notable actions was filing charges against former FirstEnergy executives and public officials in connection with the House Bill 6 bribery scandal.

With Yost stepping down before the end of his term, DeWine will appoint a replacement to serve out the remainder of the term.

Current Ohio Auditor Keith Faber is running for attorney general in the November election and could be considered as a possible choice for the appointment.
