LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima soup kitchen is seeking financial support by inviting the community to walk a mile in the shoes of the people it serves.

Our Daily Bread will host a local walk as part of “The Coldest Night of the Year” on Feb. 28. The event is one of many walks taking place across the country to raise money and awareness for people experiencing homelessness, hunger and hardship.

Similar to other fundraising walks, teams and individuals can collect donations to support those in need within the community. Our Daily Bread is encouraging local families, churches, schools and community groups to participate and show compassion for neighbors who are struggling.

“We are doing this because we serve over 30,000 meals a year, and to keep doing that, we'll need the funding to make sure that we can stay open for years to come. We would like to raise awareness to the struggles that are happening downtown and in other town, to raise awareness for our homeless community and to make sure that people know that they're not alone," says Sami Stapleton, Site Manager, Our Daily Bread.

Teams and individuals can sign up for “The Coldest Night of the Year” walk on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Our Daily Bread, 125 S. Central Ave., in Lima by logging on to https://cnoy.com/location/lima.

Check-in begins at 4 p.m., followed by the walk at 5 p.m. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m.
